Liberation International Music Festival 2024

With a theme of mirrors and reflection, the 2024 Jersey Festival offers a feast of music offering emotions of sorrow to joy through music.  From Grammy winning jazz artists, internationally renowned classical stars, music and words capturing the dramatic story of artist Claude Cahun, to talented young artists, enjoy captivating music in stunning locations across the beautiful island of Jersey.

In the Festival we raise money to enable outreach projects to benefit islanders using the power of music.

MUSICAL WALK - SEAFIELD HOUSE

Start: Glass Church (map)

Embark on a captivating musical journey led by guide Ian Ronayne through the scenic grounds of historic Seafield House, previously the home of an Austrian princess. On this walk you will be serenaded by international violin soloist Harriet Mackenzie and friends including cellist Urska Horvat and singer Liberty Spears.

Celebrate with Music in Action as we return for a “Mirrors” themed concert with the Jersey Chamber Orchestra and leading international soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet playing Mozart’s Double Piano Concerto with Andrea Nemecz.

MUSICAL WALK - OUAISNE TO ST BRELADE’S

Start: Old Smuggler’s Inn (map)

Starting from the Smuggler’s Inn, come and enjoy a guided musical walk around the beautiful surroundings of Ouaisne to St Brelade’s Bay and the fabulous Churchill Gardens serenaded by violin soloist Harriet Mackenzie and friends. Music includes Bach, Amy Beach and the great Histoire du tango. Ned Malet de Carteret leads the walk with historical insights as well as featuring Music in Action Young Artist Omara Sylvester..

An enchanting evening of dinner and chamber music at the Jersey Museum with celebrated soloist So-Ock Kim (violin) and friends Maxim Rysanov (viola), Dora Kokas (cello) and Wu Qian (piano).  Sonorous and joyous Piano Quartets are celebrated from the earliest by Mozart inspiring Beethoven, and Faure’s great masterpiece, the brilliant first piano quartet.

SIR WILLARD WHITE - CELEBRITY SONG RECITAL

Experience the sublime artistry of singing legend Sir Willard White and pianist Anna Tilbrook as they weave a captivating tapestry of song.  From Schubert to Bernstein, songs from the shows such as Ol Man River and modern classics enjoy a simply stunning evening.  Simply unmissable.

CLAUDE CAHUN: REFLECTIONS

‘Reflections’ showcases music of Claude Cahun's time alongside words about the early years with violinist Harriet Mackenzie and pianist Anna Tilbrook.  Blending the story of the life of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore before the occupation with a musical soundscape by Boulanger, Gershwin and Joplin, the evening evokes the spirit of the time and the inner world of Claude Cahun.

Mozart Double Piano Concerto

11th May 2024

This concert promises to be an incredible evening of classical music, featuring the world-renowned pianist Jean Efflam Bavouzet and the Jersey Chamber Orchestra.

About this event

A concert of favourites including Mozart’s Double piano concerto and Haydn’s Symphony No 47, the night will be led by Eamonn Dougan the chief conductor of the Jersey Chamber Orchestra. Opening with a stunning piece by Sussmayr - Die Spiegel Von Arkadien - the man who finished Mozart’s Requiem translated as the Mirror of Arkadius. It is followed by one of the most exquisite pieces of Mozart - his Double Piano Concerto one of his many masterpieces. The soloists are the piano maestro Jean-Efflam and his wife Andrea Nemecz - and the interplay between the two will be quite stunning to watch.

The second half features the Music in Action choir singing Haydn's Insanae, Franck's Panis Angelicus sung by Omara Silvester and Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus before Haydn's remarkable Symphony No 47. It is one of his celebrated masterpieces and in it the third movement is a palindrome - its the same from front to back and back to front.

About this event

These international soloists have toured worldwide as well as performing at Verbier, the Lincoln Centre, New York, Buckingham Palace, BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, on BBC Television and live on BBC Radio 3.​

Sonorous and joyous Piano Quartets are celebrated from the earliest piece by Mozart which inspired a youthful Beethoven, to Faure’s great masterpiece, the brilliant first piano quartet. A delightful dinner featuring sharing platters, transforms the event into a harmonious celebration of gastronomic delights and musical brilliance.


Food: Buy a Food ticket and enjoy a sharing platter of fine food from 5:30-7.30pm courtesy of The Yard. Or buy a normal ticket to the concert and arrive at 7.30pm. Please be aware that food is served between 5:30 and 6:00PM.
