Jersey Sings Across the Bay returns in 2024

The island’s largest music Festival Jersey Sings Across the Bay takes place on 19th June 2024.

The Festival is outdoors centering on Jardins de la Mer between 12 noon to 3pm with 4 huts including the Beach Arena. From 5-9pm performers will perform from 4 shelters or huts from the Freedom Tree to the Look Out Cafe at First Tower.

This event is more than a concert. It puts music at the heart of island life and is a huge showcase for the arts in Jersey. For the schools we want to ensure that every child in Jersey has the opportunity to make music and experience the rare thrill of performing in a very large event. Schools are performing from 12.00 noon until 3.00pm.

Over 15 schools are due to take part from Janvrin to Haute Vallee. At 1 pm, children from 15 primary schools will perform in a huge massed choir at the Beach Arena by Jardins de la Mer.

From 5pm, singers and ensembles will take over and perform until 9pm. There will be around 40 performing groups in total with around 800 performers. To sign up as a performer then please email info@musicjersey.com

There will be fabulous food from cafes around the Bay and the chance to raise money for children’s educational workshops.

School Workshops in 2024

Jersey SIngs has more singing in 2024 as well as some percussion workshops.  The incredible singing leader Alexander L’Estrange will be directing who has led massed choir workshops across the UK and in America.

On 7th-9th February 2024, there will be workshops in schools for a “Bucket and Spade” orchestra with Janet Fulton.  Janet is renowned in the UK as an animateur and leader at mass community events. She will be joined by Director of Percusion at the Royal Northern College of Music - Andrea Vogler with more workshops in June 2024 for schools.  Five choir pieces will be performed at Jersey Sings Across the Bay and two more Radio Gaga and World in Union with solo singers.

The workshops we will provide are aimed primarily at students in KS2 and the start of KS3.  See musicjersey.com/projects for more information.

Primary Schools - Jersey Sings Across the Bay - Wednesday  19th June 2024

Each Primary School can join the massed choirs at the Beach Arena to rehearse from 11-12.30pm and then perform at 1pm. This will be led by the Jersey Sings Band and some leading singer soloists who will get the children very excited!

In the huts, the music performed will be chosen by you the school.  It does not have to be singing related.   You can choose music that you are learning with your class or even poetry!

Secondary Schools – 12-3pm

Secondary schools are invited to send a variety of ensembles, class groups of all styles.  We would like the whole school to be represented as this is a huge celebration of music in the island.  It can be Brass Band, rock or pop, steel band, school choir, you name it.  Together with you we want to put music at the heart of island life.

Secondary schools can book timeslots to perform in one of the 4 performance huts in the 12-3 pm period of time on 19th June 2024.

You will need to think about getting your children to the relevant hut 15 minutes before their slot starts. Ensembles do not have to be entire classes.

Adult bands and performers – 5-9pm

From 5-9pm there will be a number of adults singing and performing in bands, choirs and groups from country and western, to pop to classical and acapella choirs.  Adult performers are encouraged to sign up by linking from our website at www.musicjersey.com
