Coronation Concert - Jersey Chamber Orchestra
Music in Action invites you to a celebratory Coronation Concert with the Jersey Chamber Orchestra and the Jersey Festival Choir. Join us for a concert of coronation favourites including Zadok the Priest and Mozart’s Coronation Mass, led by Eamonn Dougan the chief conductor of the Jersey Chamber Orchestra and soloists from Westminster Abbey who sang at the actual coronation on the day before.
Opening with the fanfares of Zadok the Priest popularised as the theme to the Champions League but composed for the coronation of King George II. Since then it has been performed at every UK coronation, up to and including that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
Mozart's Exultate Jubilate meaning Rejoice be Glad is filled with gladness, and Mozart ably captured this joyful mood in his music. The third movement ends with a brilliant and exuberant setting of “Alleluia.” We are delighted that the soprano Chen Reiss a leading lady at Covent Garden, La Scala, the Berlin Philharmonic and Royal Concertgebouw is performing with the Orchestra.
Haydn's Symphony No 98 is one of his celebrated London symphonies and in it he quotes from the Coronation Mass as well as Mozart's Jupiter Symphony. Written in 1792 it is considered that it was a reflection of his admiration for Mozart who had passed away the previous year. It finishes with a vibrant presto.
The highlight of the evening is Mozart's Coronation Mass for which the Jersey Chamber Orchestra is joined by the Jersey Festival Choir and international soloists.
The soloists include Lawrence Zazzo ( "A countertenor of gorgeous tone, superb control throughout the range, excellent musicianship and handsome bearing") New York Times), Mark Dobell and Jonathan Brown both of whom sang in Westminster Abbey at the Coronation, and of course Chen Reiss.
Don’t miss your opportunity to join Music in Action at this exclusive event hosted in the beautiful St Helier Methodist Church, where you will enjoy an ensemble of famous musical works, a night of classics to remember!
