The Soldier with no Name - Theatre Show

  • Methodist Church 122 Halkett Place St Helier, JE2 4WH Jersey (map)

By Flora MacAngus

Immersive theatre with the dramatic story of artists Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore and their acts of resistance against the occupiers of Jersey in World War 2.  Featuring actor Flora MacAngus, and a piano trio, the performance blends music and Cahun’s words, offering a captivating multi-sensory journey of art and emotion.

Violinist Harriet Mackenzie, cellist Urksa Horvat and pianist Anna Tilbrook blend the story of the life of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore during the occupation with a musical soundscape by Boulanger, Gershwin and Debussy.

Claude and Marcel were at the heart of the radical thinkers and creatives of their time whilst in Paris. They hosted the likes of Salvador Dali, James Joyce, Nathalie Barney and Jacques Lacan. Faced with the decision to flee to safer territory or to stay and protect the island they decided to resist. The show tells the story how Claude and Marcel challenged the authority of the German’s using their creativity before being arrested and sentenced to death. Not only did the pair distribute anti-occupation propaganda, but they also harboured contraband and traded rationed goods.
