Natalie Clein - Jersey Chamber Orchestra

Music in Action invites you to a special concert with a focus on the cello with child prodigy turned international artist cellist Natalie Clein with the Jersey Chamber Orchestra. The concert includes Haydn’s classic concerto in C and Faure’s Elegie. Led by Eamonn Dougan the chief conductor of the Jersey Chamber Orchestra, the music and players will make this a night to remember.

The highlights of the evening will undoubtably be the two pieces performed by Natalie Clein being Haydn’s Cello Concerto No 1 and Faure’s Elegie for Cello and Orchestra.

Described by the Times as ‘mesmerising’ and ‘soaringly passionate’, British cellist Natalie Clein has built a distinguished career, regularly performing at major venues and with orchestras worldwide.

She records regularly for Hyperion. In 2017 her album featuring works by Bloch, Dallapiccola and Ligeti was awarded a Diapason d’Or. She has regularly been invited to work with major orchestras worldwide, including Philharmonia, Hallé, Montreal Symphony, New Zealand Symphony, St Petersburg Symphony, and Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires and has performed with conductors including Sir Mark Elder, Sir Roger Norrington, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Leonard Slatkin, Heinrich Schiff and José Serebrier.

In recital she appears frequently with major artists including the likes of Martha Argerich, Ian Bostridge, and Simon Keenlyside.

Born in the United Kingdom, Natalie came to widespread attention when she won both the BBC Young Musician of the Year and the Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians in Warsaw. She studied at Royal College of Music in London and with Heinrich Schiff in Vienna. In 2021, Natalie was awarded an OBE for her services to music.

Natalie plays the ‘Simpson’ Guadagnini cello of 1777. Don’t miss your opportunity to join Music in Action at this exclusive event hosted in the beautiful St Helier Methodist Church, where you will enjoy an ensemble of famous musical works, a night of classics to remember!

The concert starts with Cecilia McDowell’s Rain, Steam and Speed. Commissioned for the London Mozart Players the piece depicts in music Turner’s painting, Rain, Steam and Speed, The Great Western Railway (1844) - a broad gauge engine steaming across Maidenhead Viaduct, one of Brunel’s greatest achievements.

Beethoven’s great 7th Symphony brings the concert to an end with a flourish.
